Virgin Mobile... how to lose a customer FAST

For a couple years my wife has has a Virgin Mobile phone she uses when she goes to the USA. Before the process was pretty simple. Sign up on on the web, ie: enter the phones ESN, program the phone and a few hours after arrival in the USA the phone is working.

The only problem in the past was arguing with them over whether the phone works at the Miami Airport. The phone seems to work fine there, but doesn't seem to get activated from there... and the support is moronic, as they don't actually check and see if the phone has registered in the system.

Today, it was a bit different. I entered the ESN and selected my payment plane. Next came the surprise...

Your activation is in progress

Thanks for starting the activation process. You've done your part. Now the ball's in our court.

Because activations are taking longer than expected right now, it's going to take us 1 or 2 days to get you set up on our network.

Say what?!?!? The ball is in MY COURT... but I have to wait 1 or 2 days for THEM to set me UP!?!?! Sounds like the ball is in THEIR COURT, and not mine.

By then, we should be able to give you your Virgin Mobile number and some final instructions on how to get your phone working. If not, feel free to check back for an update on how much longer it will take. Just return to virginmobileusa.com and click on May we help you.

Now, since my wife will be arriving in Miami with a non-programmed phone and no idea when it might be activated or what number might be assigned or how to program the phone we have a new plan.

Look for a non- Virgin Mobile prepaid phone in the Miami Airport... I hope she returns home with Virgin Mobile phone so I can make a video for you tube of the only appropriate thing to do with it... smash it with a sledge hammer!

Get real... in today's high tech world, activating a cell is not a one or two day process!

Well, Virgin Mobile is even more ignorant than I though... while telling me on the web it will take 1 to 2 days to setup my phone on their network and give me a phone number... and giving me bogus instructions to click on "may we help you" (a phrase/link that does not appear on their home page at all)... they are actually sending me an email with the phone number and telephone programming instructions.

Now, the real question is whether the phone will actually function when it arrives tomorrow at noon.

I tried calling the number they assigned before the phone arrived in Miami (it will get there in about 5 minutes).

There is a personalized voicemail recording made by someone else! I also noticed that listening to the voicemail annoucement uses up minutes! Not that is pretty damn corrupt... charging airtime rates when no airtime is used.

Now, let's see if the phone actually works within a reasonable amount of time after arrival in the Miami Airport.

This time the phone actually worked moments after the plane touched down... rather than having a 3 or 4 hour delay like last now!

Now, Virgin Mobile just needs to make a sensible website and stop screwing people out of airtime paid for when its not actually used... and there might be hope for them.

You need to learn proper English and if you dont like their service, then DONT USE IT. and BTW you can check your voicemail from a landline phone. dail your phone number, when it reaches the voicemail hit * then enter your passcode then hit #.
