How do you disconnect your phone lines?

By Wilbur Corncob at 05/23/07 13:53
I called Verizon yesterday to disconnect 3 of my five telephone lines with them. First I got an office in Texas rather than Pennsylvania. That was after 10 minutes of hassle with clueless automated system.

When I finally got a nice lady that "could" help me. We went over things. My biggest fear was that they would disconnected the wrong numbers. But she was very careful and triple checked the numbers.

For two of the number she said she didn't know how to disconnect them (she didn't said ISDN, but it is an ISDN line). She then called the department that was supposed to deal with that, but she said they didn't know how either.

So today, one of the lines was disconnected and the other two are still functional (and I presumed I am billing billed for them).

The interesting question is if no one know hows to disconnect those lines, can I stop paying the bill and continue to receive service? If they can disconnect the service if I don't pay the bill (which I suspect they can) why can't I call and have it voluntarily disconnected?

Calling back is far too serve self punishment so I will need to send a fax to the Chairman of the Board aka executive office of Verizon.
