Verizon Internet has a great new offer!

By Vicki at 03/19/08 13:22
I have had Verizon DSL internet now since about late 2003. At first, I had absolutely no problem with the service. It had good speed and I had no connection problem whatsoever. I could plug my phones into the phone jacks in other locations, and as long as I used Verizon's filters everything was hunky dory.

Well, the modem that they sent me in the beginning worked great until it had been dropped a time or two too many by someone yanking the cord walking by and finally the ethernet port was beyond repair. I ordered up a new (and supposedly improved) modem (which I had to pay for of course) and hooked that up. That was mid to late 2007 and I have had nothing but trouble ever since.

I have sporadic connection issues and will be happily cruising along and all of a sudden, I get no signal from the modem. I can't even get signal from one end of the house to another to my daughter's computer. I am not too unhappy about that, since I would really prefer she can't access the internet with no supervision whatsoever. I currently use my laptop about 6 feet from the modem. I have connection problems whether I am connected to the modem itself with an ethernet vable, or use the wireless connection.

So the tech calls to Verizon begin. This is usually an exercise in frustration as the person I end up speaking to is not speaking plain English. I usually ask them to repeat themselves about amillion times.

Well they sent a tech out to inspect my phones lines and modem and then they called me to tell me they had found the problem and corrected it. By now, the problem has been going on for several months and several phone calls to Verizon. They said they were getting a weak signal from my modem and that is what was causing the problem.

Well, on Sunday, March 16, it stopped working again. I didn't do anything at the moment, but strangely...half an hour later I get a call from Verizon tech support to see if my DSL was working. Isn't that funny? Well, I told the lady that it had stopped working half an hour ago and she said she would schedule a technician to come out again.

I got another call later that day, saying they would NOT be sending a technician. She said (repeated at least fifteen times because I could not understand a word she was saying...) that what they needed to do was DECREASE my connection speed by HALF to 700ish from 1.5 that I had before. I told her that was unacceptable because I constantly have large upload and download requirements for files I work on at home. She said that I was too far from the central office to work at that connection speed.

Now if that wasn't a crock of poop, I don't know what is. First of all, my connection worked just fine and dandy before they sold me the crappy new modem. Second, why am I going to want to pay the same crappy price I have always paid for half the service????

I told the lady just to leave my connection speed alone and I would give good old Comcast Cable a call and I would speak to Verizon's contract department after about a week and they could remove their internet from my home. She got a little huffy about that, but I could care less. What..did the central office move further away from me? How could I not get enough signal now, but got enough before? They are full of crap!

I know I will probably have to fight all kinds of battles getting the contract cancelled without haveing to pay their stupid penalties. Bear inmind that since 2003 up until mid last year, I was on a month to month basis with DSL (no contract) and only did the contract when I combined my services into the ONE BILL service and they said if I took a year contrcat, I would get a better price. Well, little did I know, that a month or so from that time, I would get half the service for that discounted price!!

Ordered DSL in July or August of 2007. In December the computer broke and I no longer have one. Verizon refuses to disconnect the DSL and they said "getting a replacement is easy." I do not want a replacement. Fee for disconnect is $79 - folks living on limited income cannot afford that. Their people are hard to reach and hard to talk to, you can spend hours in their "voice mail hell" and their disconnect fee is highway robbery.
